Supercharge your skin with these powerful face masks

A couple of weeks ago, my skin felt like parchment. Eventually, I had to revise my skin routine. The harsh winter months force us to live with cold and dry air. Under those circumstances, the atmosphere will take a toll on us. As a result, our skin becomes dry, dull, and flaky, screaming for immediate relief to restore itself to the healthy, plump, and radiant look we wish for. Here are 5 powerful face masks that will make your skin glow.  Revise your skincare routine with these moisturizing and nourishing masks that will put a stop to dry, dull, and flaky skin. Indeed, regular moisturizing in winter is not enough. We need to supercharge our skin routine with power masks. Although these power masks are useful, they are too expensive for my budget. Consequently,  I prefer to make my own, which are as effective, if not more. Besides, my homemade face masks are natural, so they do not plague my skin with unhealthy, hidden chemicals.

My Success Story

Within the last two weeks, my skincare regimen was very successful. In other words I used my best winter power masks daily. And what a difference! The Banana mask not only hydrates my skin on a deep level, but it also erases small cracks in my skin, makes my face glow, and has an overall tightening effect. You will be surprised about the benefits of the Banana mask – Natures Botox.

Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance

Before I apply any mask, I do a patch test to make sure I have no hidden allergies. Once ok, I clean my face using the vegan “Brightening Cleansing Gel” by Acure
Following cleaning, I exfoliate using my homemade Oatmeal Scrub. I wash the scrub off with buttermilk. The lactic acid in the buttermilk gives me triple benefits. It moisturizes, brightens, and exfoliates. BTW I use buttermilk in my daily skin routine.

Power face masks for winter skincare are created in the kitchen.

For my winter skincare routine, I need heavy artillery. I am very familiar with the nutrients of the Avocado, Banana, Honey, etc. because I have used these ingredients for years. When I first came to the US, many moons ago, my friends thought I was “crazy” washing with honey, buttermilk and smearing Bananas and Avocados on my face. Fortunately, nowadays, using natural ingredients seems to be the trend.

Powerful Nutrients for your 5 powerful face masks that will make your skin glow

Avocado:

Is the Avocado good for your skin? The Avocado is a powerhouse of benefits for skincare. The Avocado,  one of my favorite ingredients because it deeply nourishes and moisturizes my skin even so it’s almost scorched in during winter .. Vitamin A and E repair fine lines on dry skin. Rich antioxidants will firm and protect aging skin

Nutrients in the Avocado:

An excellent source of Vitamin A, E, and C|
Vitamin A is absorbed by the skin if applied as a topical. Also known as topical retinol, which stimulates new cell production. Without retinol, the skin becomes parched.

  • Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, Vitamin E is beneficial for healing UV damaged skin.
  •  Vitamin C-Antioxidant- As we grow older, the collagen production in our body lessens. Collagen gives the skin firmness and elasticity.

Moisturizing Avocado Mask

  • 1/2 Banana Peel (scrape the inside of the peel)
  •  1tsp Raw Buckwheat  Honey
  •  1 tsp Olive oil
  •  1 TBSP Yogurt – one tablespoon
  • Buttermilk

Blend and mix all ingredients well. Avocado should be as smooth as possible for better application. I combine all ingredients in a blender.

Is the Banana good for the skin? It’s incredible

Nutrients in the Banana:

  • The Banana is a mild exfoliator
  • Vitamins A, B6, B12, and C., biotin
  •  Minerals – Tighten the skin
  •  Magnesium.
  •  Potent antioxidants – heals acne
  • Anti-inflammatory properties heal damage to the skin
  • The potassium and water content act as a natural moisturizer

Vitamin B12 lightens age spots and pigmentation.

Vitamin A: heals dry skin and acne, smoothes aging skin, lightens age spots

If you are unfamiliar with the benefits of Raw Honey, just go to the cosmetic counter in a department store and read the labels of Lancôme, EstéeLauder, etc. skincare products. You will find that most of these products contain “Honey.” I am using raw Buckwheat honey because I want the extra potent benefits dark honey has. My skin deserves it. Please note the darker the honey, the higher the antioxidant count, and the better for your beauty routine.

Truth vs. Myths

All moisturizing masks are the same. True or false?

ALL moisturizing masks are NOT the same. Choose a mask that infuses skin with intense hydration, smoothing and plumping fine lines, anti-oxidant protection, and boosting radiance  and firming.

Following two moisturizing masks, which I absolutely love. I have used them for a long time, especially in winter. Every week I make a new batch to keep it in the fridge. I use it for my face, neck, décolleté, and lastly, for my feet. In winter, I sometimes use them twice a day because it feels so good, and wrinkles appear to be reduced. Hurray!!
I do scrape the banana peel because there is some heavy artillery contained in the peel, and I don’t want to miss that. Did you know that in some countries people eat Bananas with the peel?. There must be a reason for this.

Banana Moisturizing Mask:

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoon plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 teaspoon Buckwheat raw honey
  • 1/2ripe Avocado
  • 1 Banana Peel (Scrape the inside of the banana peel)
  • 1 very ripe Banana. The brown discoloration is fine

Mix and blend all ingredients. Store in the refrigerator not longer than 7 days.

Why it works:

With regular use (min. 2 to 3 times) per week.

The lactic acid and Vitamin C in the greek yogurt will act as a light exfoliator and leave your skin silky and smooth. The raw honey is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, so it’s great for preventing blemishes and or acne.

The Banana, also known as “Nature’s Botox,” will erase wrinkles, age spots and, take off tiny moles, will tighten saggy skin, and repair damaged skin. Bananas are rich in Vitamin A, which helps to rev up collagen production. Growing older, the body produces less collagen, which is necessary to maintain the elasticity of our skin. This mask is a true power masks. Try it, you’ll love it.

Cacao Mask

Ingredients

Mix and blend all ingredients. Store in the refrigerator not longer than 7 days.

The honey hydrates your weather-beaten skin.

Why it works:

Raw Cacao Powder:
(Reminder: Make sure you buy UNPROCESSED, UNSWEETENED, CERTIFIED ORGANIC powder)

Packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Raw cacao powder is also anti-inflammatory. Essential minerals, such as iron, copper, manganese, potassium, calcium, and magnesium for all over the health of the body and skin is another benefit of the potent powerhouse.

Mix well and apply on your face. Leave the mask on for 30 and then rinse thoroughly with cold buttermilk. I do not rinse off the buttermilk, but use a homemade moisturizer after the mask to have an additional benefit. You will immediately notice a huge difference, and your skin will feel incredibly smooth!

Egg White Mask

Firming and Lifting

I wrote about the benefits of egg white before.  BTW I faithfully apply egg white whenever I use an egg.

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 1/2 TBSP sugar
  • 1 TBSP Sweet almond oil

My final suggestion for those cold winter days is the

 Coffee mask:

Coffee is a source of nutrients and Caffeic acid, an antioxidant that boosts collagen levels and reduces the premature aging of cells. Antioxidants that benefit the skin, scalp, and hair. It’s also a great exfoliator.

Nutrients:

  • Antioxidants – protect the skin, reduce pigmentation and fine lines.
  • B-3 (niacin) – Helps to prevent skin cancer
  • Chlorogenic Acid (CGA) -Combats acne
  • Caffeine: Prevent dark circles
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 TBSP strong brewed Coffee
  • 3 TBS ground oatmeal

I hope that you will use one of these power masks to revise your winter skincare and will be happy with the outcome. Try any mask and use it faithfully for four weeks to see the results. Let us know the outcome in the comments. We really want to know.
